2016’s breeds are Blue Slate, Black Spanish, Bourbon Red, and Royal Palm turkeys. You can read more about why we choose to raise heritage breed turkeys (and other heritage breed livestock) on our website here.
- They are able to reproduce naturally.
- They are able to forage for their own food.
- They grow at a slower rate, taking about 28 weeks to come to maturity, compared to 12-18 weeks for commercial birds. We also find them to be very intelligent when it comes to sheltering themselves from inclement weather and predators.
